Goods VS Territories: A Tale of Two Gravities
نویسندگان
چکیده
The flows of traded goods across countries are known to follow a gravity pattern: their volumes are greater between countries that are larger in size and closer to each other. We find a similar pattern in the flows of territories across countries between 1870 and 2008. During this period, countries experienced inflows and outflows of territories, mirroring the international flows of goods. We find three other pieces of critical evidence supporting that the two flows interact through similar economic motives. JEL codes: F51, F15, P16

A tale of two contribution mechanisms for nonlinear public goods
Amounts of empirical evidence, ranging from microbial cooperation to collective hunting, suggests public goods produced often nonlinearly depend on the total amount of contribution. The implication of such nonlinear public goods for the evolution of cooperation is not well understood. There is also little attention paid to the divisibility nature of individual contribution amount, divisible vs....
متن کاملAn Architectural Tale of the Two Cities
A comparative study of the corresponding styles of Western and Iranian modern architecture has hardly ever been carried out in detail. This paper aims to sketch out an outline for such an investigation and to present a summary of empirical evidence accompanied by field observations to elaborate the ongoing trend of relationship between architectural styles in Iran and that of the West. This is ...
متن کاملCardiovascular models of simulated moon and mars gravities: head-up tilt vs. lower body unweighting.
INTRODUCTION In this study we compare two models [head-up tilt (HUT) vs. body unweighting using lower body positive pressure (LBPP)] to simulate Moon, Mars, and Earth gravities. A literature search did not reveal any comparisons of this type performed previously. We hypothesized that segmental fluid volume shifts (thorax, abdomen, upper and lower leg), cardiac output, and blood pressure (BP), h...
متن کاملMetacognitive Strategy Instruction and EFL learners’ Listening Comprehension Ability: A Tale of Two Genders
This research aimed to probe the effect of two different models of metacognitive strategy instruction on the listening performance of EFL learners in Iran. 83 intermediate EFL learners in four groups, two male and two female groups were the participants. The participants in the first experimental groups – a male and a female group – were undergone a ten-week treatment including the linear strat...
متن کاملImbalances of the autonomic nervous system in people living in radioactive contaminated territories: radioactivity and vegetative imbalance
Background: The Ural region is highlighted among other Russian regions for its unfavorable radiation situation and complexity of the overall environmental situation. The source of man-made radioactive contamination is the work of the "Mayak" Production Association. A significant radioactive contamination has happened as a result of several radiation incidents in the early period ...
